Step 1: Paint

Place your mason jar upside down on a piece of cardboard or newspaper. Paint all sides of the jar. Don’t worry about painting the bottom no one will see it. Let the paint dry completely.

TIP: Paint only up over the first bump on the lid of the jar. The other part of the lid no one will see and then when you refill the soap you won’t have flakes of paint coming off as you twist the lid on and off.

Step 2: Paint Second Coat

Paint a second coat of paint and let it dry completely.

Step 3: Sanding

Using your sandpaper sand off some of the paint to give your jar a more rustic look.

Step 4: Twine

Tie the twine around your jar making a bow in the front.

TIP: If your twine won’t stay where you want it to you can always use a little hot glue to keep it in place.

Optional Step: Add Glitter

Add some glitter or another color of paint by putting painters tape around the jar and then adding glitter paint or a second color of paint onto your jar. Let it dry completely. Then remove the painters tape.

 Step 5: Add Soap

Add your soap and then screw on your pump.

TIP: Buy a more expensive pump if you want it to last longer than 2 years. I got my old pumps from Michaels for about $5.00 and now they barely pump out any soap. So we bought these new ones from Amazon and they are great!

Optional Idea: Makeup Brush Holder

Another idea is to make a makeup brush holder!

Simply add some rocks to the bottom of your jar to hold your brushes up and add a flower holder under the lid. Then screw on the lid and add your brushes. I also spray painted my lid and flower holder a bronze color because that is the color scheme of our bathroom and I wanted everything to match.

Show off Your Soap Dispensers:
